This year’s AGM was well attended and the main discussion was about the future running of the Club. As an MSA affiliated Club we are bound by their rules and over the last few months they have woken up to our existence and have issued new rules that we have to abide by. Some of these will undoubtedly change over the next year or 2 but in the meantime we have had to change the way we operate to fit in.
1. Membership:
a. Cost: reduced to £20 per person or £30 for a joint membership
b. Joining – The MSA now requires everyone taking part (as a driver) in any event, apart from promotional events, to be a member of an MSA Club. This means that whilst we can have guests from other Clubs we cannot offer ‘trial’ memberships. To get around this we are now offering instant membership with 3 months to pay
2. MSA Licensing
This is a biggie. From January 2010 anyone taking part in a Challenge event must hold an MSA “non-race Clubman’s Licence”. Whilst, in theory, this applies only to drivers, even the MSA suggests that anyone likely to drive i.e. winch monkeys/co-drivers should also hold a licence. Licences cost £23 per year and are very easy to apply for online and do not require medicals. RTVs and Driving Days are unaffected. To offset the cost of this, and because the Club’s funds are very healthy, it was decided that from January 2011 membership fees would be reduced to £5 per year and everyone would apply for MSA licences.
As normal, everyone coming to an event must bring their SWATC membership card (or other MSA affiliated Club card if not a SWATC member) or no playing. If the event is a challenge, punch hunt that requires a winch, or similar then an MSA licence card MUST also be shown.
These and other subjects need a lot more discussion before we, as a Club, can formally decide on what suits us best and the ideal place for these discussions is the Club’s Forum. Please take the time to look in from time to time and contribute. This is your Club and your views matter.
