EVENT CALENDAR NOW UPDATED ON THE FORUM - CHECK HERE

We run  a number of events each year for the members and their guests.  The cost per day varies and we send a reminder email (or letter for the luddites) with directions, meeting times and cost about 10 days in advance.

Members are asked to read the Club's event rules which are here

Some sites we visit have special requirements and whilst we endeavour to provide such information in advance of the date, the Club cannot be  held liable for losses etc caused by conditions imposed by the landowner.

NB Extra dates are highly likely to be added especially for driving & training days.  Private dates are also sometimes arranged and may be added.  Members are unlikely to be contacted  directly about these so keep an eye on the events calendar.

I have started to describe the sites by category so members can get a better idea of what to expect at a site.  These are relatively loose descriptions and will be supported by photos when possible.  Category list is at the bottom of the page

CATEGORIES

As we get more sites, so the need to describe them increases.  I have listed the categories below with a rough description of what I mean.  Some sites are big and/or varied enough to fit into multiple categories and care should be taken when driving not to stray into a more extreme part inadvertently.

Category Title Description Example site
ND Non Damaging Basically non damaging.  Open, rough ground without bushes, trees narrow gaps etc. Suitable for showroom standard vehicles under most weather conditions. Road tyres. NB. Damage is always possible but a day at an ND site should get you no more than muddy

Little or no recovery equipment required

FD Forest Drive Basically non damaging driving on tracks only.  Risk of bushes, trees, etc causing scratches.  Virtually no mud suitable for all tyre types irrespective of weather conditions. All terrain tyres useful but not essential

Recovery equipment unlikely to be needed beyond a strop or tow rope.

AT All Terrain Suitable for vehicles with All Terrain tyres. Light damage possible but down to gorse bushes and branches.  Mud holes, rutted tracks and rocks as well as bushes, trees etc but often with alternative routes to avoid the worst.

Winches not normally needed but you never know your luck

MT Mud Terrain Boggy, muddy with deep ruts and bomb holes.  Mud tyres required, damage possible.  You will get very dirty even in dry weather.

Winches likely to be needed, strops and KERRs highly likely to be used

XT Extreme Now we're talking! Bogs, holes, trees, rivers. Everything your mother warned you about.  Damage is very possible even if you are careful - Motorsport is dangerous, after all that's why we do it

Winches, strops, KERRs definitely needed and often used all at once

WC Winch Challenge Getting silly.  Damage is 90% likely, winches a necessity. See www.argyllforestchallenge.org.uk for more details

  Recovery Equipment
RQ1 Level 1 - basic Tow strap and shackles
RQ2 Level 2 - towrope, towing strap, shackles, chassis mounted recovery points
RQ3 Level 3 - intermediate tow straps/ropes, shackles & winch or KERR,
RQ4 Level 4 - tow straps/ropes, shackles, winch, KERR, possibly ladders
RQ5 Level 5 - Maximum Winch on front and possibly back as well, KERR, extension ropes, bridging ladders, Hi-Lift Jacks
