We have been around for over 10 years organising vehicle Trials, Training Days, Fun Day 'competitions' and Driving Days in central and west of Scotland.  We're a very friendly  bunch and  we're always looking for more places to go to.

We are an all marque club for off road vehicles which means we welcome owners, drivers and off road driving enthusiasts.  Amongst our membership we have Landrovers, Mitsubishis, Volvos, Range Rovers, Suzukis, Daihatsu's and a whole host of modified, adapted and specialised off road vehicles.  We pride ourselves on being friendly, welcoming and generally nice people who have a penchant for getting very muddy.

We try to appeal to every type of driver/vehicle with events for shiny vehicles (although they may not be so shiny afterwards), proper off roaders and extreme off road trucks. Under the auspices of the Motor Sports Association (MSA) we run vehicles trials and we offer help and advice on what to buy and how to use it to best effect.  We have been asked to run other competitions like Comp Safaris, however we stick to what we're good at and leave the Comp safaris to other clubs.

We operate a closed membership.  New members must be proposed & seconded by existing members. Guests are welcome to come along and see what we do, however we ask that you contact us in advance so we know to expect you.

We are very proud of our safety record and place great emphasis on use the best and safest practices in our sport which is inherently dangerous.

Please note that for safety reasons we cannot allow quads, motorbikes,  buggies etc, to participate alongside 4x4 (or 6x6) vehicles.

RTV Trials

Our RTV trials are a series of competitions designed to test both driver and vehicle.  Run at very low speed, these trials are all about planning, vehicle control and counting backwards.

Each trial consists of about 7 sections, each of which is made of a set route of 6 'gates' (pairs of sticks or canes) through which the driver must navigate without stopping, touching any gates or driving over his/her own tracks. Gates must be driven in the correct order with points being avoided by getting as far as  possible.  The first gate costs 12 points, the second 10 points, the third 8 and so on until you complete the section and go 'clear'.

The trials are meant to be non-damaging, however motorsport is inherently dangerous and scratches, biffs and bashes are all part and parcel of the sport.  You have the choice of whether to attempt a section.

RTVs are a great way to learn what you and your vehicle can do and there are different Classes for each type of vehicle, SWB, LWB, coil or leaf sprung or special.   It's also a great Social.

Driving Days

Our normal events are known as Driving Days.  These are usually on a Sunday with members turning up at the site or a prearranged meeting point to spend the day driving off road.  Each site has its own character ad suits different vehicles.  There no other point to the day but to drive around with friends and stuck and muddy.  Otherwise known as 'Pay and Play'.

Training Days

Occasionally we have a day where we get together and set up tricky situations and ten practise getting out of them.  In the past we have done winching, self recovery, assisted recovery etc.  We are hoping to have 'Masterclasses' running at a few driving days for people to brush up on their use of the various bits of kit.  Training is done on an informal basis and does not mean anyone actually has quaifications to teach this stuff.  It's a sort of sharing information kind a thing.

Special Events

Every so often we run a mini challenge day with some kind of theme.  These days are Driving Days with more of a purpose, even if that is just an excuse to bring the family and drive about collecting clues and chocolate!

SWATC supported events

We often help out at other events run by various Clubs and groups.  We go along as Marshals, organisers or general dogsbodies. examples include:

Argyll Forest Challenge, Scottish Hill Rally, Ae Forest Challenge, Forest Drives (with Forest Enterprise) amongst others.
